Clifford Chance has underlined its commitment to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) by making space on its management committee for a representative of the region.
Michael Cuthbert, managing partner for the CEE region and the firm's Moscow office, has been voted onto the committee for a two-year period. His term begins immediately.
Previously the firm's German managing partner Hans-Josef Schneider represented Germany on the committee, with Madrid managing partner Ignacio Ojanguren representing the rest of Europe.
Ojanguren and Schneider, whose current two-year periods began in January, remain on the committee, with the former taking responsibility for Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The running of the European practice has now been split three ways to recognise the steps the Eastern European region has taken over the past few years and its growing importance to the firm.
Over the past financial year Europe, excluding London, contributed 34 per cent of the firm's turnover, the equivalent of £405m.
A total of 17 partners now serve on Clifford Chance's management committee, which is chaired by managing partner David Childs, with each serving between two and four years. It features representatives from each practice stream as well as each region.
