Italian structured finance star Luigi Chessa has become the first person to be made up to the Clifford Chance partnership on two separate occasions.
Chessa first joined the partnership in 1997. He was one of the founding partners of Clifford Chance's Rome operation, joining from Studio Graziadei Ferreri as a partner. He spent six years at Clifford Chance before taking up in-house roles at credit rating agency Standard & Poor's and public investment body Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
He returned to Clifford Chance in 2005, joining as of counsel and has now completed his journey with a return to the partnership this month.
His move was separate to the latest round of partnership promotions, which saw 38 associates make the grade.
With Chessa back, the Rome office has grown from seven to eight partners.
