The magic circle firm had to close its headquarters in the Russian capital after a rogue lightbulb exploded outside the building it shares with Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, causing a fire. All very mysterious.
So after shelling out for a brand new office just three months ago, Clifford Chance has had to shift its lawyers to temporary accommodation at a client (Axa, as rumour has it).
Even more gallingly, Linklaters looks like reaping the benefits. We hear most of Goldman is camping out there until the building has been given the all-clear.
