CC edges on to BOCHK legal panel

Clifford Chance’s Hong Kong office has won a place on the Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) legal panel.

The firm, which advised BOCHK’s parent company Bank of China on its Hong Kong listing in July 2002, has been reappointed to the panel alongside Deacons.

The panel review follows the appointment of general counsel Andrew Wang.

The review is a blow for Koo and Partners, which was the sole external counsel. The firm, which works with US firm Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker, has been at the centre of a furore after the South China Morning Post reported that BOCHK arranged for Koo lawyers to sit on the board of Shanghai Land Holdings, the locally-listed vehicle connected to controversial property tycoon Chau Ching-ngai.

Koo, Wang and Clifford Chance declined to comment.
