The Grimaldi e Associati Clifford Chance (CC) saga has taken another twist, causing further confusion within the partnership
The Lawyer understands that Italian senior partner Vittorio Grimaldi has indicated that he may retire altogether from private practice in order to pursue other business opportunities. Also, head of M&A Roberto Capelli and banking and finance partner Francesco Novelli are still likely to quit the firm in order to set up a boutique practice. Discussions to try to keep them within CC have been long-running and the magic circle firm is now struggling to manage their exits. Grimaldi, together with Capelli and Novelli, has been threatening to quit the firm and set up an independent practice because of plans to introduce a new management structure to bring the Italian practice in line with the rest of CC. CC declined to comment.
