CC boosts DC office with US govt capture

Clifford Chance’s Washington DC office has strengthened its projects group by recruiting the former assistant general counsel of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
Ronald Jonkers is joining Clifford Chance after 11 years at OPIC, a development agency which is part of the US government, where he specialised in large project finance deals in a number of emerging markets, including Russia and India.
Jonkers’ arrival will bring the number of lawyers in the firm’s DC projects group to 11.
At present the group has 10 lawyers, including two partners, David Evans and Jeremy Connick. Connick, however, is expecting to relocate to London in October following a brief sabbatical.
Evans said a secondee that Clifford Chance sent to the International Finance Corporation, which is part of the World Bank Group, is set to return to the firm’s DC office imminently.
Evans said the firm has worked on a number of projects with OPIC, most recently on a deal in Algeria, although it was through the involvement of Clifford Chance in Russia that the firm first worked alongside Jonkers.
