Cayman's Solomon snubs City for Zurich launch

Cayman Islands firm Solomon Harris has chosen Zurich rather than London in what will be the offshore firm's first move out of Cayman.

Partner Paul Scrivener said the firm had decided against opening in London because "it's already well populated by the longer-established Cayman law firms" and by comparison Zurich "offers a suitable crossroads between the east and west European Union".

The firm has hired Bank of Bermuda's senior legal counsel Georges Boivin as a partner for the new Zurich office.

"Boivin is a financial services and offshore expert and we're delighted to have him on board," said Scrivener.

The new office will focus initially on hedge fund clients, although it will eventually expand to become a full-service practice.
