The founding partner of Walkers, a leading Cayman Islands firm, has launched his own firm on the island, named Stuarts
William Walker is understood to have hired lawyers from the small Caymans firm CS Gill & Co, as well as his son, who has spent a short time at Walkers. He has also been advertising for recruits from other offshore islands. Stuarts is expected to focus on corporate investment, and one of Walkers' principal clients is Caymans' Caledonian Bank and Trust.
Walker founded Walkers in 1964 and retired in 1998, at which point the firm had 25 lawyers. Since then the firm has grown to 62 lawyers, has offices in the British Virgin Islands and London and has a special purpose vehicle with a Tokyo branch specialising in trusts.
