Catrin Griffiths, director of New City Media and former editor of Legal Business magazine, is to become the new editor of The Lawyer.
She will take over from Sean Brierley who steps up to the new role of editor-in-chief.
"Many magazines take years to achieve what we have done in the past 12 months," says Brierley. "Catrin's appointment is a major coup for us. She will be in charge of the next phase of The Lawyer's development, building our contacts in the profession, breaking bigger and better stories and working on the The Lawyer's re-design."
Griffiths worked as a journalist at Legal Business for seven years and won a UK Press Gazette award. She was made editor in 1994 and left in 1997 to set up New City Media, part of QD Group, with Mark Brandon.
Griffiths says: "NCM has broken new ground in legal publishing and I will be very sad to leave.
"However, this is the best job in legal journalism and I am looking forward to working with the most talented reporters in the legal market."
On Griffiths' appointment, Mark Brandon, managing director of New City Media and QD, says: "All of us at New City Media are delighted for Cat. The combination of the finest legal journalist in the country and the leading legal magazine is sure to be a potent one. I look forward to maintaining our close relationship with The Lawyer as New City Media expands."
Brierley will be in charge of special projects including new magazine launches and web-based products and will work with Griffiths on a comprehensive re-design of the magazine.
