One of the more amusing snippets to have emerged from last week's hire by Allen & Overy of Lovells private equity partner Derek Baird is his nickname. Or rather, the name Baird apparently wanted his colleagues to call him.
The story emanates from Baird's days at Dickson Minto, so whether the nickname followed him from the Scottish boutique to Lovells is unclear. What does seem certain is that Baird was spectacularly unsuccessful in persuading his chums to start calling him by the name. Which. Was. 'Tiger'.
