General Pinochet v the Belgian government. The notoriously sick senator faced yet another attempt to keep him in the UK long enough to arrange extradition to a country that wants to put him on trial. This time the Belgian government and six human rights groups applied to the High Court for judicial review of the Government's handling of the medical examination that convinced Jack Straw that Pinochet was unfit to stand trial.
Pinochet's friend, Swiss lawyer Peter Schaad, will have to wait a little longer before toasting the General's release. Schaad says he has a magnum of Heidsieck Monopole set by at a Chelsea restaurant. 'It goes into the fridge when his plane takes off from Britain and we open it when he arrives home in Chile,' he said.
