Case of the week

Changing Rooms presenter Elizabeth Wagstaff could soon be swapping her swags and swatches for an empty cell after admitting to conning friends and colleagues from the popular television show out of £54,000 by telling them that she had terminal cancer and needed urgent treatment. In reality, 38-year-old Wagstaff of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, was suffering from water retention and a minor thyroid problem. Wagstaff duped the wife of fellow presenter Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen despite being their child’s godmother and spent the cash on designer clothes to impress her boyfriend. Wagstaff’s solicitor Andrew Shaw claimed that his client was suffering from a psychological disorder.
