Case of the week

Sacked Kiss FM disc jockey Steve Jackson, who presented Kiss FM's breakfast programme Morning Glory, is taking his former employers to an employment tribunal, alleging they ejected him because they wanted male, white presenters to appeal to a more mainstream audience. Jackson, who earned u80,000 a year and won the Sony Gold Breakfast Presenter of the Year prize earlier this year, claims his employers at the station, which is famous for playing black dance music, unfairly dismissed him and is alleging race discrimination and breach of contract. However, Kiss FM denies the claims and says Jackson's programme had "lost its edge" and that audience figures were falling.
