Addleshaw Goddard is slowly making inroads with its attempts to penetrate the private equity sector. The firm's big catch was Andrew Carpenter, who joined the team from O'Melveny & Myers last December to build up the practice area in London and create stronger links with private equity houses in the capital.
Carpenter's first partner hire since joining the firm comes in the form of Speechly Bircham star Dee Sian. While the hire of a partner from little Speechly Bircham may not at first glance appear the most glamorous, Sian's record is nifty.
She has close relationships with private equity houses Beringea and Close Ventures. Sian has also advised 3i on more than 70 private equity transactions, a client she shares with her new firm. And the client list goes on: Alta Berkeley, US-based Bessemer Ventures, Isis, LMS Capital, Quester and Top Technology... Not bad going.
Sian's capture builds Carpenter's team to 12 lawyers working in London and will go some way towards helping him fulfil his brief.
