Carnival hires first general counsel into its UK division

Carnival Corporation, P&O's leisure cruise company, has appointed Simon Walters as the first general counsel of its UK division.

Walters previously held senior legal roles at Norwich Union Healthcare and technology company Enterasys. He will report to Carnival's chief financial and strategic officer for the UK Ed Jones and will take a board role within Carnival UK.

Walters said: "The variety of work is out of this world. A cruise ship is like a floating city, so any and every kind of issue can and does come up."

Carnival UK uses Bond Pearce for general commercial matters and Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham for litigation. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is used for major corporate or competition work and advised on Carnival's 2003 merger with P&O.
