  • Chris. If you're serious about law you really need to do A-Levels. Without it is almost impossible. I would recommend that you do three academically challenging subjects (Sciences, Maths, English, Languages, History etc). You then have the choice of a law degree, or any other degree followed by the GDL (which catches you up with law students in one year following University). The second option is more fun in my opinion. Get your A-Levels, make sure they're all As and Bs, then go to a good University, get as much legal work experience as you can in the process, make sure you do plenty of extra-curricular activities, then you'll be set.

  • @ anonymous 1 Feb -

the author spells it out quite clearly (as do many other articles on this site).

    to become a solicitor -

A levels (Eng)/ Highers (Sco) (some schools do International Baccalaureate - also acceptable)

    then
    University

    then
either the legal practice course/ diploma in legal practice if you studied law
    or
graduate diploma in law (eng) or accelerated LLB (sco) then legal practice course or diploma in legal practice

    then
2 year traineeship at a law firm

Routes to the Bar are different - bar vocational course in England or 'devilling' in Scotland

I want to be a criminal justice lawyer and have no interest in housing at all. If i have a standard grade in a second language will that do as long as it's a good one. Would History, Modern Studies,Physics,Religious Studies and Maths do?
