With no lateral hires made in 2006-07, Penningtons was busy promoting from within. In three years the firm has promoted 11 people to partnership compared with the recruitment of nine outsiders, seven of whom arrived in the firm’s bumper lateral hiring year of 2004-05. Of the internal appointments in 2006-07, women accounted for 50 per cent of the total, while each of the six main departments gained.
