As a firm known for its private client and family law expertise, it is unsurprising that this is where Farrer & Co has concentrated its growth. But unfortunately for the firm’s associates, much of this has been through lateral hires. The firm’s two promotions in 2006-07 were into the non-core areas of media and IP, but laterals came in to boost the private client, tax and trusts teams. The firm has also hired a number of barristers as consultants for its family practice.
