Edinburgh-based Burness has had a quiet couple of years on the recruitment and appointment front, with just a single promotion and lateral hire in 2006-07. This compares with 2004-05, when it appointed six new lawyers to its partnership, including one external hire. There is potential for promotion in all of the firm’s practice areas, although the biggest winner has been the property team, which has had three internal promotions and two laterals in the past three years.
