Bristows has yet to make a decision on promotions for 2007 after the shock departure of one-fifth of its partnership. Five IP partners have left to set up their own firm, and Bristows is waiting to see what effect this has on the partnership before deciding its next move. As such, promotions for 2007-08 are likely to take place in the summer.
Unsurprisingly for a specialist IP firm, all five promotions in the last two years have been in the IP practice. Lateral hires are few and far between. The last lateral hire the firm took on was commercial IP partner Mark Watts from IBM, who joined in 2003.
