Bird & Bird has increased its rate of lateral hires during the past three years to reach 17 in 2006-07 following a string of international recruitments at a rate of more than one a month. The firm appointed 14 partners in offices outside the UK in 2006, with Madrid securing the largest share with three hires. For the past three years laterals have outnumbered internal promotions. The biggest push has been in corporate, with nine laterals and four internals.
