Barlow Lyde & Gilbert (BLG), which operates a conservative all-equity partnership, is dragging itself into the 21st century with the introduction of a partner bonus in May 2007. This change in direction comes after BLG lost 16 partners in a steady flow over the last three years. These losses were somewhat counteracted by three rare lateral hires in 2006. But BLG has largely stuck to its guns and concentrated more on internal promotions. The firm’s core litigation business of insurance, reinsurance and professional indemnity has continued to dominate both lateral and internal promotions for the last three years, although corporate has also seen notable growth.
