Weightmans has been recovering recently from a turbulent period, rebuilding through both lateral hires and internal promotions. 2003-04 was the busiest year, with 11 laterals and four internal promotions across a wide range of practice areas. Things quietened down the following year, as Weightmans hired just two new partners and promoted another two. But 2005-06 has seen a resurgence. The firm has hired five partners, principally in property, and has made up nine, mostly litigators.
Litigation, property and professional indemnity are the practice areas which have benefited most from Weightmans’ hiring and promotion policy. Women make up just over a quarter (27 per cent) of the new partners, accounting for six of the 15 promotions and three of the 18 lateral hires. |
