Hugh James has made up a total of 11 partners in three years, of whom seven have been internal promotions. The sectors have been across the board, with a tendency in 2005-06 towards commercial (one lateral, one internal promotion out of a total of five partner appointments that year). The Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil offices have a roughly comparable number of appointments.

Over the course of the three years, there have also been seven new equity partners – six internal and one lateral. All but one have been in Cardiff, with a slight bias towards contentious work.
