2003-04 was the biggest year in recent memory for partnership appointments at Hill Dickinson, when it introduced 24 – nine internals and 15 laterals. Since then, the number of partnership appointments has decreased. What is more striking is that internal promotions have fallen consistently in three years, from nine in 2003-04 to five in 2004-05 to three in 2005-06.

The general litigation department has taken on only laterals in the past three years – a total of three. Marine/shipping saw a big push in 2003-04, with three laterals and three internals, but since then has only managed one new partner (internal). Liverpool has seen the most partner growth in three years, with 19 appointments compared with 12 in Manchester and nine in London..
