After a big year for lateral hires in 2004- 05, when Field Fisher Waterhouse (FFW) hired eight externals and made only one internal promotion, 2005-06 showed a swing back to homegrown candidates. However, laterals kept coming, particularly in corporate, where three were appointed. The IP/technology group makes one internal promotion a year, supplemented by a minimum of one lateral.
Over the course of three years FFW has hired in more laterals than growing its own. It appointed 16 lateral partners compared with 10 internal promotions. Of the 26 appointments, five have been women.
