CMS Cameron McKenna has historically promoted from within. Of the 21 partners appointed in the past three years, all but three were internal promotions. Of those three laterals, two had previously worked at Camerons.

The biggest beneficiaries have been the corporate and finance groups. Finance (including banking, capital markets and project finance) has made up five partners in three years, although its high watermark was in 2003-04, when it got three partners through - although one was a lateral who had originally trained with the firm. More recently, corporate has had a good track record of promoting to partnership, with three internals getting the nod in 2005-06. Less successful is the insurance/reinsurance group, with only one partner promotion in three years.
