Care costs in High Court

Kent County Council has launched High Court action in a bid to claim back the cost of the nursing home care it funded in respect of a woman who died in January 1996. The council is taking Jennifer Tapley, executor of the estate of Vera Bennett, to court. It claims that Tapley must pay more than £7,000 in nursing home fees incurred by Bennett while she was alive. The council decided in January 1995 that Bennett required residential care. She lived at Grench Manor Residential Home in Grange Road, Gillingham from that time until her death. The council, which is also seeking £2,037 interest and continuing interest of £1.57 a day, says that Tapley has ignored demands to pay.
