Yet another partner has been added to the long list of defections from beleaguered firm Morgan Cole. Cardiff-based Bill Witter is leaving the firm to take up an in-house role at a client, Welsh housing association Shaw Homes.
The firm has seen a torrent of partner departures in the last six months. Those leaving from the Cardiff office include Alun Cole, Julian Boswell, Jeff Jenkins and Duncan Mac-Intosh. In London, real estate partners Jonathan Cantor and Leslie Gascoine took a team to Portner & Jaskel, and head of client services Bleddyn Rees is on a long-term secondment to the NHS. Last week The Lawyer also reported that former Cole & Cole chairman John Moisson had joined Reading firm Boyes Turner.
Shaw was one of Witter’s key clients. “In recent months, they’ve taken up a large proportion of my time,” he said.
The general counsel role at Shaw has been newly created. “They’ve been growing very rapidly,” Witter added.
Morgan Cole is believed to currently have around 55 partners.
