Capello: a real man of the (legal) world

There's a familial feel to Grapevine this week. One of The Lawyer's hacks was chatting with Addleshaw Goddard employment partner Malcolm Pike recently when he mentioned that he had advised Fabio Capello on his employment contract with the Football Association. (Note to non-footy fans: Capello is the new manager of the England football team.)

Pike picked up the job after a referral from the sports department at Garrigues, one of Addleshaws' preferred firms in Spain. Yes, Spain. (Note to non-linguists: Capello is Italian.)

Capello's previous employers were Real Madrid, where he finished a second successful managerial spell last summer.

Garrigues has formed a close bond with the master tactician, who seems to have a pan-European legal team working on his behalf. Yes, he even retains an Italian lawyer - his son, Pierfilippo Capello, of Guardamagna e Associati.
