Camerons plumps for Tyler as senior partner race concludes
CMS Cameron McKenna’s partnership has elected Dick Tyler as its next senior partner.

Tyler, the firm’s former managing partner, begins his three-year term on 1 May, replacing current senior partner Richard Price.
As reported on TheLawyer.com last week (24 March 2011), the senior partner vote went to a third round after no overall winner was declared following a vote last Wednesday.
The third round of voting was between Tyler and consumer products head Louise Wallace, after project finance partner Andrew Ivison dropped out of the race.
Corporate partner Tyler joined the firm in 1983 and was managing partner between 2000 and 2008. He has been executive partner of the CMS network since September 2008.
In a statement he said: “There’s great talent throughout this firm and our partners are passionate about our success. My job is to help them achieve it.”
Price added: “Serving the firm as senior partner for the past nine years has been a great privilege and I’m delighted to welcome Dick as my successor. Dick and I worked together for many years in our corporate department and then as senior and managing partner for six years.
“The world and our industry have changed significantly since I became senior partner in 2002, and this change is set to continue at an accelerating pace. Dick will be working hard with [managing partner] Duncan Weston and the rest of our partners to keep us at the forefront of developments over the coming years.”

My word, what a surprise...This was probably in mind in 2010 when they extended Richard Price's tenure for an additional year.

Not sure this is much of a forward-looking decision. Whilst I accept that Dick is a safe pair of hands this does have a whiff of babysitting Duncan about it. The really interesting vote will be the one for Managing Partner next year - will the partners continue with Duncan after the upheaval of the last 3 years?

They say history repeats itself. Just as Augustus said "Varus, give me back my legions" about the disasterous loss of 3 legions, this is "Duncan, give me back my law firm" after the disasterous last 3 years.

Excellent post - although will Integreon/(the barbarians at the gate) give back the legions of support staff that Duncan offered up to them?
On another historical note - good choice of Augustus as an example, who took the first steps to truly integrate the Roman provinces and create a real empire. Will Dick Tyler do likewise and make CMS merge together into one firm after a decade of integrative steps? I hope so.

(Although, being realistic, that is probably a little too racy for a City law firm...shame really. Caligulian romps are more in hedge fund territory.)
