CMS Cameron McKenna is set to close its corporate practice in Bristol
Partner Michael Jones, the only Bristol-based partner in the corporate team, will transfer to the London office at the end of July. He is understood to be taking all his clients with him. Of the three corporate assistants in Bristol, one will leave the firm, one has joined the corporate recovery team in the City and the third is on maternity leave. The four remaining Bristol partners focus on banking, insurance and corporate recovery, which were the original practice areas of the office when it opened in 1990. "I don't regard it as a retrograde step," said Simon Hegarty, group practice manager of the Bristol office. "Our specialisms are limited for a period of time, but the core practice areas remain and we're expanding those." Jones, a former McKenna & Co solicitor, joined the office four years ago on his return from Hong Kong, when the firm decided to build a corporate presence in Bristol. Hegarty said: "We did so and it's been very successful; but Michael's decided that it's better suited to servicing clients from London, focusing on more of a plc base. He has therefore moved to strengthen the corporate practice in London. We haven't really lost him, he's just changed offices."
