Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft has snared a structured finance lawyer from rival US firm Sidley Austin Brown & Wood.
Former Sidley associate Assia Damianova will join Cadwalader's London capital markets team as special counsel to focus on structured transactions, including collateralised debt obligations and credit derivatives.
Cadwalader capital markets partner Charles Roberts said: "There’s a real need for firms in London to build up their teams in this area. Unfortunately there aren’t many lawyers with the relevant expertise on the market."
Roberts added that Damianova is a key hire for the capital markets team, which the firm hopes to expand during the next year.
"We’re not concerned about the recent market volatility,” said Roberts. “I'm confident the markets will change and we feel that building an even stronger team is crucial."
