US firm Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft's London office is seeking advice from fashion gurus as it introduces an all-year dress-down policy. It is following the example of its New York base, which claims to be the first Wall Street firm to allow its lawyers to dress "smart but casual" every day of the week.A spokeswoman for the London office says: "A lot of banks and management consultants do it, and the clients we are dealing with have more of a casual approach."If there are big deals to be done, then everyone will be in suits, but generally it's a more comfortable approach to working."The spokeswoman says black combat trousers, as sported by Clifford Chance chairman Keith Clark, would be suitable attire. The London office will shed its traditional garb in April, a month later than New York, which did so on 6 March.New York spent two months arranging tie-ins with Polo Ralph Lauren and Esquire magazine.Esquire's editor, author of a book called Things a Man Should Know About Style, will be advising lawyers on how to dress for success.
