BVI firm O’Neal Webster moves into London with former Walkers partner

British Virgin Islands (BVI) firm O’Neal Webster has launched a London office, headed up by former Walkers partner Christopher McKenzie.

McKenzie joined the firm in May from Walkers, where he headed the private client team in the BVI.

The firm plans to focus particularly on cross-border trust and estate work in London, as well as other cross-border work.

The move follows last year’s London launch by fellow BVI firm Forbes Hare (17 September 2012), with the initiative also led by a former Walkers partner.

McKenzie said in a statement that London was becoming increasingly important for cross-border trust and estate work. “The move is especially timely given the very recent enactment of some ground-breaking changes to the BVI’s trust and estate legislation which will be immensely attractive to those who use the jurisdiction for its private client and commercial trust offerings,” he added.

McKenzie is O’Neal Webster’s sixth partner.

Last week Channel Islands firm Ogier relocated its two London-based legal staff back to Jersey, although it has retained its trust and administration staff in the City (25 July 2013).
