Burness partner Philip Rodney has successfully defended the former snooker world champion John Higgins of allegations of match fixing, originally made by the News of the World (NoW).

Rodney instructed Ronald Clancy QC of Ampersand Stable to represent Higgins at the Sport Resolutions Tribunal, which was chaired by Blackstone Chambers’ Ian Mill QC.
Higgins has been banned from professional snooker for six months and fined £75,000 for bringing the game into disrepute because he failed to report the approach made to him by undercover reporters asking him to throw matches.
Higgins’ manager Pat Mooney was represented by Withers partner Andrew Ford, who instructed David Phillips QC of Wilberforce Chambers. Mooney was banned from the game for life for his part in the scam.
A statement released by his lawyers said: “Mr Mooney bitterly regrets being caught up in the News of the World’s entrapment and is unreservedly sorry for the impact that sting has had on snooker and Mr Higgins in particular.”

do i understand that (1) some subhuman garbage from a foull rag tried to entrap the mighty hurricane higgins; (2) that he treated them with the ignore they deserved; (3) he was then fined and barred for not bothering to report such garbage to a useless organisation that would have done precisely nil about it. Gawdelpus. Only thing Alex failed to do was stick an unchalked cue in the appropriate holes.

I'm sorry if this comes as a surprise to you, Val, but ALEX Higgins died some time ago. Indeed, you may wish to review "Alex Higgins: The People's Champion" on BBC's iPlayer. This article relates to the current world no 1 JOHN Higgins.
