BT rejig puts Global Services GC at head of retail legal team

BT has appointed a new general counsel for its retail arm BT Retail, promoting a senior BT Global Services lawyer into the top job.

Gordon Moir will take over from former BT Retail general counsel Andrew Parker on 7 April, after Parker was appointed BT Group company secretary. Moir is currently BT Global Services general counsel for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Moir said: "It's going to be a new challenge. I've been working on the regulatory side and that will continue - and on new areas such as BT Vision, which is internet TV."

Moir was recently appointed to the BT Group legal leadership team, which oversees its legal management. In his new role at BT Retail he will also join the transformational leadership group, which looks at ideas to improve the efficiency of the legal function.

An internal memo seen by The Lawyer states: "We are delighted to announce that Gordon Moir has been appointed to the role of general counsel, BT Retail, responsible for legal and regulatory matters for BT Retail. Gordon brings a wealth of experience to the role, including on regulation and broadcasting issues."

BT Retail manages products such as BT Broadband and cheap calls service BT Talk Together. It has more than 18 million customers and a revenue of £8.5bn.
