City firm Herbert Smith has appointed Liz McDougall as head of business development, succeeding Roger Bruce.
Bruce has left to undertake an MBA and is understood to be setting up his own marketing consultancy. He joined Herbert Smith in a high profile move from Theodore Goddard for a reputed salary over u100,000 in 1993. It was the first external marketing appointment by the top ten City firm.
McDougall has worked at the firm for over nine years and was involved in property work prior to this appointment. In 1990, she became the first dedicated know-how lawyer at Herbert Smith. Her activities in the property department were in setting up model form precedents and in marketing the department.
"I was working alongside Roger for a time before he left," says McDougall.
The firm pays tribute to Bruce's contribution. He set up an effective and well run department, which played an active part in the firm's development, says McDougall. "He was very much liked in the firm."
