US firm swoops on Germany; nets four partners for January launch
US firm, Brobeck Hale and Dorr is opening an office in Munich, as it continues to target European technology centres.
A total of four Munich-based corporate technology lawyers will join the firm as partners when the office opens on 1 January 2001.
Hubert Besner, Christian Breuer and Rainer Kreifels are moving from local technology firm Besner Kreifels Weber. Peter Kremer joins from Heiss & Partners.
They will be joined by Brobeck London-based securities partner David Ayres and four local associates.
The team will work with German and international technology companies, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and investment banks.
It will advise technology businesses setting up in Germany as well as representing companies and investment banks on public offerings for Nasdaq, the Neuer Market and the London Stock Exchange.
Besner says that the firm's experience in key IT centres such as Silicon Valley and Route 128 will help the team provide a comprehensive service for technology companies.
Besner says: "Strong marketing is something new in Germany especially in the technology centre. But Brobeck has it."
Brobeck's London managing partner Tom Kellerman says the firm has targeted Munich because it is recognised as Europe's leading technology and venture capital centre.
He says: "We believe that opening in Munich is an important and logical step in providing high quality legal services to technology companies, venture capital firms and investment banks."
Brobeck will help technology companies gain access to German and international funding.
Kellerman says: "Because we are active for technology businesses in all the major European and US stock exchanges and technology markets, we can help entrepreneurs and young technology companies gain access to the venture capitalists and investment banks that will finance their future growth."
Ayres says: "We are delighted that Hubert, Christian, Rainer and Peter are joining us. Their strong ties to the technology and venture capital communities in the Munich region make them ideal individuals to launch our office."
Brobeck is a multinational partnership and joint venture between Brobeck Phleger & Harrison and Hale and Dorr. It has offices in London and Oxford.
