British Energy GC and Chakrabarti win birthday honours

A raft of lawyers have joined footballer Ryan Giggs and Ian Botham on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

British Energy general counsel Robert Armour is the only in-house lawyer to make the list, being awarded a CBE for services to the electricity industry.

The Queen gave a CBE to Doughty Street Chambers barrister Jonathan Cooper and Liberty director Shami Chakrabarti for services to human rights. Former 36 Bedford Row silk Mr Justice Morrison was rewarded for services to international justice.

Former Crown Prosectution Service chief executive Richard Foster received a CBE and senior crown prosecutor Susan Matthews was awarded an MBE.

David Stewart, who was the Queen’s solicitor in Scotland, was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and David Lang QC, the former attorney general of the Falkland Islands, was made Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George.
