Well done Duncan! This sounds like a great opportunity especially if you want to go into human rights……… It’s a pity the legal aid system in England is so dire though. Reply Link Gavin 17 February 2009 at 15:11 – Good for him, no doubt he’ll be in high demand when he returns. Reply Link Owen Williams 17 February 2009 at 16:50 _ I was lucky enough to be Amicus’s first ever intern back in 1998 and the experience was genuinely life changing and affirming. The Lawyer was good enough to recognise my trip by naming me as Assistant Solicitor of the Year in 1999 (thanks for that) which was a bonus! Best of luck and enjoy flying the flag Reply Link Robert 17 February 2009 at 18:02 Thanks, but… It’s admirable to want to help people who you feel are otherwise overmatched by the System, but you’re more than a bit misguided if you really think that the best use of a year of your life is protecting Mississippi death row convicts from capital punishment. Human dignity and human rights are enhanced by personal accountability, not degraded by it. Capital punishment would be a just punishment far more often than it is actually imposed as punishment. You’re not making the world a better place by acting as though the US justice system is the front lines of the fight for human rights in the world. Reply Link Anonymous 17 February 2009 at 19:20 left field? not sure what upset Robert so much!!?!!? but it sounds like a great experience – a friend of mine did it about 6 yrs ago and had a great time. Have fun! Reply Link Anonymous 17 February 2009 at 20:34 … and? I don’t understand the extensive coverage of the Amicus. Lots of people are involved in human rights and there is not much news on them.
