Bristows IP stars open breakaway boutique

Five breakaway partners from IP firm Bristows last week launched their own boutique, Powell Gilbert.
The firm opened with contentious IP partners Simon Ayrton, Zoe Butler, Penny Gilbert, Tim Powell and Alex Wilson, as well as five former Bristows associates, as first revealed on www.thelawyer. com (6 March).
The partners worked six months’ notice before opening the new firm.
Partner Tim Powell said: “It’s been rather a long time before we were allowed to open our doors.”
The firm will advise on a broad range of IP matters in the life sciences, electronic and consumer sectors.
“It’s incredibly exciting to set up our own firm and be masters of our own destiny,” Powell said.
Powell Gilbert is based in London’s West End.
