Bristol’s Queen Square Chambers opens in Cardiff

Bristol-set Queen Square Chambers has moved into the Welsh legal market with the launch of a base in Cardiff.

The move comes as the set looks to broaden its base to attract a new raft of instructions.

“The advent of ABSs and the increasing trend for work to be concentrated in the hands of fewer, bulk providers has emphasised the importance of having the ability to service work over an ever-wider area,” commented head of chambers Christopher Taylor.

The set currently counts two Bristol-based legal expense insurers among its key clients but is aiming to increase its eligibility for panel appointments by kickstarting a growth spurt.

Chambers chief executive Steve Freeman said: “Wales represents a sizeable and busy marketplace but has perhaps been traditionally thought of as being out of bounds for sets not already based in the principality.

“The evidence in recent years, however, would seem to belie that assumption. Many providers across a wide range of disciplines have welcomed the opportunity to embrace new options for servicing their clients’ needs and appear to appreciate the extension of choice made available by the presence of external counsel and possibly the refreshing flexibility and emphasis on building genuine relationships that we’re able to bring.”

The set, which has around 50 members across civil and criminal law, opened its office last week.
