Simplification of the UK government's CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

Over recent months, various announcements have been made by the government in relation to the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, culminating in the publication of the draft CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme Order 2013 on 4 March 2013. The key theme is the government’s attempts to simplify CRC rather than pursuing outright abolition. Although the reporting requirements have been reduced, CRC remains complex, particularly in its impact on corporate structures. The performance league table will be abolished. From phase two onwards, there will be changes to how trusts deal with CRC and minor changes to its impact on landlords and tenants, but perhaps not enough for the property industry.
