Quick updates for those involved in disputes

Parties to litigation need to be aware of the gravity of signing a statement of truth: signing an apparently false statement may, and sometimes does, lead to proceedings for contempt of court.

In Makdessi v Cavendish Square Holdings BV and another, Mr Makdessi had signed a statement of truth in respect of his defence and counterclaim. The claimants (respondents) later obtained permission to apply to commit him for contempt of court. His unsuccessful appeal was reported recently.
