Appropriate protection for the branding of digital goods and services is often a cross-border issue, as businesses naturally take advantage of the global network and offer their goods or services to customers from different jurisdictions. 

Consequently, providing goods or services under a trademark may be subject to the legislation of different jurisdictions. Therefore, it can be very important to guarantee uniform legal protection for brands within the European Community by registering them as Community trade marks.
