Mandatory Data Breach Reporting Bill tabled
The Privacy Amendment (Privacy Alerts) Bill 2013 has been tabled in the Federal parliament.
If passed, the Bill will: introduce an obligation on entities bound to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles to provide a notification to the Privacy Commissioner and any affected individuals when the entity reasonably believes that a ‘serious data breach’ has occurred; and commence on 12 March 2014 (the same date as the other amendments to the Privacy Act will take effect)…
