Flexible water: reform of the water abstraction management system

Before Christmas, Defra published its consultation document on the reform of the water abstraction management system under the seasonal title of ‘Making the Most of Every Drop’.

Environment minister Dan Rogerson introduced the proposals by saying that ‘the old abstraction system is no longer flexible enough to deal with the challenges of climate change and a growing population’.

The proposals relate to all water abstraction and not just licences for farmers…
