EU consultation: revision of state aid rules relating to public intervention in the energy market
On 5 November 2013, the EU Commission released its guidance to member states on the role of state intervention in internal electricity markets in the form of an EC Communication along with five working papers.
Then, on 18 December, the EU Commission published draft guidelines on Environmental and Energy Aid for 2014–20. The EU Executive is asking governments and any other interested parties to comment on the draft guidelines by 14 February 2014.
The current draft guidelines have been expanded to explicitly include energy as well as environmental aid. The EU considers that the new guidelines will help member states to invest better in their energy-policy choices to pursue common European solutions to current challenges faced by the energy market…
