A storm in a teabag? The ASA, PG Tips and Tetley

Earlier this year we brought you the shocking news that bridge is not a sport. Well, brace yourselves because we can now reveal that those new-fangled pyramid-shaped teabags are officially better brewers.

Tetley complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) that an advert for PG Tips (featuring comedian Johnny Vegas and a knitted monkey) was misleading and portrayed Tetley in a negative light. The PG Tips advert claimed that with their pyramid-shaped teabags, ‘the tea has got more room to move, freeing the great taste for a perfect cuppa’. Although Tetley wasn’t mentioned by name, it claimed that use of a generic round teabag in the advert meant it was an identifiable competitor and was negatively portrayed in the advert…
